Entrance
To a traveller arriving from the Coliseum and advancing a little further along the very busy Via Labicana, the Hotel Gladiatori makes its mark as an obvious choice. The elegant villa façade in salmon pink is the first building you come to on the main road, overlooking an archaeological site.

The entrance, guarded by terracotta pots, has an electronic door leading into a contemporary-style lounge, however the travertine floor, the stucco on the wall and the antique 17th century map of the city remind you that you are indeed in Rome. The reception desk is to your left.

In the centre of the building a staircase winds round an old wooden lift, providing access to three floors. The fourth floor roof garden has a covered section and an open-air section protected by a pergola. Its outlook over the Coliseum and the city provides you with beautiful views over the domes of churches, coloured façades and tiled roofs. You can even catch a glimpse of the quadriga of the Altar of the Fatherland and, on either side, the gentle slopes of the hills of Rome with the pine-tree topped Palatino and Colle Oppio.

The covered section of the terrace is a beautiful room, cosy yet elegant, flooded with natural light through its many large windows. This is where breakfast is served in the morning and the aperitif at lunchtime and in the evening. Yellow, burgundy and grey travertine tiles, small round tables and leather seats, burgundy velvet curtains, black Murano wall lights and jazz music provide an elegant backdrop to the view over the Coliseum.

The rooms
Similar in terms of style and slightly different in terms of layout, the rooms are smart yet cosy. The colours, combining bisque set off by salmon pink and pearl grey, are soft and relaxing. The materials are glossy and regal: stucco and marble. The furniture is classic with a note of refinement.

Romantic touches include the fabric bedheads hung from a wrought iron arrow, the heavy curtains adorned with a light passementerie and the floral compositions decorating the walls.

All the rooms have a small table and chairs and storage for added comfort. The lovely marble bathrooms have large mirrors and old-fashioned brushed copper fittings. They all have natural light.

There is a turndown service each evening and other ancillary services include tickets for the Coliseum during high season.

Room types
The hotel offers three types of room: standard, superior and deluxe. The room types vary according to outlook and size. The standard overlook the Via Labicana and are noisier, despite effective double-glazing. The superior look out onto the pine trees of the Colle Oppio and the Domus Aurea, and the deluxe offer a view of the Coliseum.

The Gladiatori Suite, with its lounge and double bathroom, also enjoys a view of the Coliseum.

The hotel also has three charming apartments which, although cleaned on a daily basis, don’t benefit from the full range of hotel services.

Breakfast

A hot and cold buffet breakfast, is served in the top floor roof garden, offers a wide choice of savoury and sweet products, ranging from scrambled eggs to bacon, salmon to cured meats, mini mozzarella to cherry tomatoes, not to forget the various types of cheeses and pastries, tarts, cereals, dairy products and fresh fruit salads and juices.

Add to this the unobstructed, interminable view, where cypresses, pines and olive trees vie with the ruins and panoramas, and you have a rather unique experience. Hot drinks are served to your table.
