On arrival
As soon as you enter this once bourgeois residence with its grand brightly-coloured façades, you find yourself drawn into a scintillatingly exuberant ambience. The crystals from the chandeliers reflect on the silver patina of the walls, whilst strange balls of electricity and chrome light the stairway opening above the reception area.
To the right sits a bar with a gleaming samovar. This leads to an elegant lounge-cum-veranda, where leather and velvet combine in sombre, golden tones, which in turn leads onto the breakfast room with its gold leaf ceiling and unusual furniture.
The rooms
Whether they are called 1001 Notte, Con Vista or Delle Poesie, and despite some incredible differences, the rooms all play to the same theme, a theatrical theme where modern materials are used to achieve profusion, patina and lyrical exaggeration.
Heavy curtains rolled lavishly around curtain rails or four-posters fall onto the parquet flooring in a pool of fabric, bedside lamps covered in minuscule shades stretch out like lines of candles, an inordinate use of mirrors in the bathrooms reflects the shiny-veined marble tiles and throughout embroidery and colour wash come together in harmonious combinations of beige, gold and plum and patterns which echo each other.
Beyond the décor, all rooms are well-equipped in modern comforts (plasma screen, multiple Internet accesses, control panel, etc).
Breakfast
A buffet breakfast offers a wide range of products including pastries, cakes and gateau, dairy products, salads, cherry tomatoes, cured meats and cheese, all available in abundance and served in a relaxed manner. For instance, the salami is set out on a wooden board ready for cutting and a traditional parmesan knife is provided to cut the cheeses. When the weather is fine, breakfast can be taken in the garden.
