Hotel San Anselmo
LocationSitting high up on Aventino hill, opposite a pleasant little tree-lined square, the hotel is slightly removed from the great hustle and bustle of the historic centre of Rome.Aventino hill, home to large houses, greenery and beautiful churches, is a sort of new Palatine where a pleasant tranquility reigns. The roads are lined with walls and ivory-covered iron gates which lead onto a profusion of orange trees, umbrella pines and other types of palm tree. The only sounds are of the birds singing, the shouts from a park nearby and the muffled barking of a guard dog somewhere. Although the area does not really offer any type of entertainment or shopping, silent Rome stretches out below the hill, enticing you to enjoy a walk. A ten-minute walk will take you direct to the ruins of the Circo Massimo, the lively Testaccio quarter (with its excellent trattorias) or even, through a charming little cobbled passageway, to the banks of the river Tiber. |
