Location

The avenue de la Motte-Picquet location of the Walt has two advantages: its proximity to numerous monuments and a quiet quarter abounding in culture and gourmet experiences.

The Eiffel Tower, the gardens of the Champ de Mars, les Invalides and its war museum, the Musée Rodin and its gardens and the Museum of Primitive Arts, recently opened on the quai de Branly, provide plenty of opportunities for a cultural visit.

Aside from the monuments and museums, this is a vibrant quarter. Children run freely through the flower-lined paths of the Musée Rodin, whilst the esplanade of Les Invalides, with an open outlook onto the golden horses of the Alexandre III bridge, is a popular place for gatherings and many a Parisian has come to picnic on the lawns on the Champ de Mars on summer evenings.

In the rue Cler, rue de Grenelle and rue Saint Dominique you will find a concentration of small shops, bakers, cheese merchants, delicatessens, wine merchants, cafés, clothes and shoe shops, testimony to a still very active local life appealing to the pleasures of the palate, as do the many gourmet restaurants in the area around the hotel.

It may be a chic quarter but it remains rather traditional and unobtrusive - luxury boutiques and ultra-trendy shops are conspicuous by their absence. It is first and foremost an area for foodies, a great place to enjoy a quiet read of the newspaper on a café terrace.
